At the end of May, the wisteria surrounding the barn comes into bloom, cascading over the ceremony courtyard in soft shades of lilac. The gardens are fresh from spring, the foliage is a vibrant green, and for a few short weeks, this corner of M&D Farm takes on a character all its own.
It was the perfect setting for Kat and Nash’s wedding.
Kat and Nash had originally imagined getting married in the English countryside, but logistics ultimately kept their celebration closer to home. When they discovered M&D Farm, they found the kind of setting they had been looking for: gardens, countryside, beautiful food, and an atmosphere that could feel elegant without becoming overly formal.
Their late May wedding seemed completely at home here.
They chose the courtyard in front of the barn for their ceremony, surrounded by the mature wisteria that has grown over the property for many years. At this particular moment in spring, it forms an almost natural canopy above the courtyard, with clusters of pale purple flowers hanging among the leaves. Very little needs to be added.
The entire day carried that same sense of understated elegance. Kat’s gown was romantic and beautifully detailed, Nash wore classic black tie, and the flowers felt loose, fresh and seasonal. Against the vibrant greens of the gardens and the weathered wood of the barn, everything felt considered but never overly styled.
After the ceremony, guests moved into the gardens for cocktails and champagne. Food, flowers and drinks became part of the landscape itself, from a generous grazing table tucked among the plants to bottles of champagne waiting outside. It felt less like moving from one scheduled part of a wedding to another and more like spending a long spring evening in the gardens with the people they loved.
Their beautiful dog also joined them for the celebration and could not have been sweeter or more gentle.
Dinner was served at long tables, with seasonal flowers, taper candles and simple place settings. Later, the celebration moved into the barn, which Kat and Nash transformed with soft white draping and oversized paper lanterns. Once evening arrived and the lights came on, the barn felt warm, intimate and almost jewel-box-like.
Then came dancing, cake outside under the string lights, and time around the fire as the night grew cooler.
What we loved most about this wedding was how naturally everything worked together. It was elegant, but relaxed. Romantic, but not overly styled. The gardens were allowed to be gardens, the barn was allowed to be a barn, and Kat and Nash brought their own personality to both.
Late May lasts only a short while at M&D Farm. The wisteria blooms, the gardens suddenly become intensely green, and spring begins turning into summer almost before you notice it.
Kat and Nash happened to catch that moment beautifully.
